A good deed.

Found this man this morning when out walking my girl. He followed us to the car. I kept expecting to see his owner. But soon realised he was lost for he looked unfed for days.
I took him to Jessy's vet for we've had a chipping reg' for a few years now. But he had none.
The vet examined him and said he was fairly sound but for a infestation of mange mites. Which was the reason why he couldn't stay with me. So I went to the local dog home/shelter where they home rather than to the County dog pound where they kill after a week. He was very friendly, placid really. And Ohhh boy was Jess's nose out of joint when he was brought into the house to get showered.

    1. He is a lovely dog. And both myself and the vet though he was let out of a car and the car then driven away. But he seemed sound, and other than the infestation, healthy. We sorta came to the conclusion that he became lost somehow.

  2. Oh, that is a GREAT deed. Poor baby. I hate to hear about pets just left to their own devices because their owners are a-holes. If he's cleaned up and healthy, would you adopt him or is it just too hard with Jess having been the only dog for so long? I'm so thankful for rescues and no kill shelters. At least you know he will be taken care of if he doesn't come home with you.

    1. I, misstated with Jeff, at first I thought he was abandoned, as did the vet. But came to the conclusion he wasn't ill and that's usually the reason people do that. And yep, I was STRONGLY tempted. I even had him NAMED, Tim. How's that for an unsentimental man.

  3. Awww! I hope he's truly just lost and that his owners will come looking for him. He's a good-looking fellow. I seem to remember you trying to bring in a companion for Jess once before and it not going well. Some dogs are just meant to be only dogs. (Tim does fit him, from visuals alone)

    1. Me too. But of course my imagination went wild and I thought a reason why he was out was his owner died. For he was so emaciated, and he had lesions on his ears and flank from the mites. They were the reason I didn't hold on to him.

  4. My parents live on the first major gravel road outside of town and thus get their share of strays over the years. We used to take them in but now that my parents are older and wanting to travel more (and us kids have moved off the farm) they no longer adopt them. There really isn't anyplace for them to go out in rural areas so my parents just shoo them down the road. Where I live there is a place that homes them until they can be adopted but at 80 miles round trip, it isn't feasible for my parents.

    1. Yeah, stray dogs are an issue. And people still pay an utter fortune buying a pure breed this or that when we have doggy homes filled with little guys needing a family. The dog as an accessory is something that grinds my anger to high levels.
