    1. It's part of the harvesting machinery used, or rather was used, for peat.

  3. Ed asked my question. You answer makes me want to ask another. Did it cut peat? I like your pictures. Is the second from the bottom your town?

    1. I'm not sure where exactly that thing fit in the process. But from the 1930 to the 80s a semi State body called Bord na Mona( the Turf Board) developed and built their own machines. And used themselves and exported to Russia and Canada where they have vast peat deposits too. I'd say this is of that era, since they began using traction engines made by the Agri companies later. They had a unique issue. Being light on the surface while having the power to do the work.

  4. I never thought of peat too much outside of people cutting it out by hand. A google search had some good videos on mechanized harvesting and also about how fast it is a disappearing resource.

    1. Yes, but I couldn't find one from the 70s. All I could find had the double wheeled Fords and JD'd pulling the harvesters.
