Tipperary won the all Ireland hurling final yesterday.
Tipperary is in the Blue and Gold. This is the semi-final against Galway. I was somewhat conflicted.
Oh, for those that follow the LA Kings. Well you didn't lick it off a stone.

Licking it off a stone must be an inside joke in your country. Doesn't sound pleasant at all. It isn't exactly like American Lacrosse but similar.
ReplyDeleteNot licking it off a stone is saying you didn't learn it but came in the genes, fully wired in. And this is the oldest known game in the world and is referenced in Bronze Age sagas. Golf is a direct line of descent, as is ice hockey.
DeleteIs that the Blarney Stone?

DeleteHa ha ha!
ReplyDeleteThat's exciting! It sounds like Galway was the winner last year? So, if they take turns like that it makes it easy. :)
Hurling is not a sport I have much knowledge of, but it looks like bits and pieces of other sports. I tried to read about the scoring (goals v. points?) but I'm not so sure I understand. It's a huge field for all that running. What's it like to go to a hurling game/match?
I did notice a lot of what is called "high sticking" in hockey. That's rough for only wearing helmets!
Congrats! Enjoy the win!
No Kilkenny last year. And the final this year was against Kilkenny too. Plus, Tipperary and Kilkenny have a VERY long border, and this adds that little extra spice to the mix.
DeleteBetween the posts and above the crossbar is a point, below, is the goal. A goal is worth three points. Your American football has the touchdown and the goal kick which more or less performs the same thing. You have a team down in Orange County that play in a league with Culver City and San Diego. Also a league up in SF and Oregon.
