A little bit of Sony

One of the neat little tricks that come inside the A7 family of cameras is the ability to control the camera (to some extent) from ones mobile phone.
Meaning, I can place the camera on a tripod before the bird feeder and shoot the birds without them really knowing I'm watching them from inside the house. Neat eh.
Now, one of the issues I have is I can't for the life of me find how to shoot in RAW format while using the remote.

  1. Wow! These are very nice, and you can tell that they have no idea you are around. What a fun feature.

    1. Thank you. When I figure out I should have some really sweet ones. These are cropped hard. So they won't stand up to much expansion above where they are on a PC screen. But if I can get nearer the feeder there'll be more data.

  2. What happens when he bird jumps from the feeder to the camera and having just stuffed its face, poops :). I am not sure why I thought of that.

    1. I just wipe it off. But I did wonder if they would land on it. Birds being very timid about new stuff I had to let them get accustomed to it. But no, they didn't perch on it at all.

  3. These are quite good and Sage's comment gave me a laugh. There is bird poop everywhere around my feeders.

Something like this would be great for me since any time I try to go out and sit quietly, I end up with too much dog company for the birds to hang around.

    1. I have to figure out how to get the hi-rez files though. These are JPEGs, so about 1/10 of a RAW file. You have way more flexibility with RAW. Until I can find out if I can shoot RAW I can't say it would be a good buy. Yes It's fine for me because the phone is a bonus.
