Wild Cherry

  1. I wish I had a large handful of wild cherry trees growing down at the base of our hill.

    1. Yours would probably form sweet fruit too, ours have a unique sourness.

    2. The only wild cherry that grows here is a large tree and I think the fruit are tiny and bitter. However, there are plenty of domesticated cherry trees planted around farmsteads. Most are sweet but the ones I find the best are the sour cherries. My favorite pie in the world is a sour cherry pie!

    3. Yes the wild cherry here is a medium to large tree too. Wouldn't be far off an oak.

  2. That's lovely and a sight I don't see around here. We don't even have the fruit in our stores for very long, and much of that time they're terribly expensive. I'll take them sweet or a bit tart!

    1. Thank you Kelly. This year because the winter lasted into May and we got summer almost 24 hours later, all the flowering trees and shrubs that would normally bloom from March on suddenly erupted.

  3. That’s a really nice photo. I’m trying to imagine how big that tree is.

    1. That one is about 60 ft high and the flowers about 15 ft up.

  5. Nope, well none that I've smelt anyway.
You know it was the Japanese love of that blossom that drew me to their culture. They believe the full show is a vastly better orgasm than sex. That bit I didn't know as a teen, but I think it would've amused me hugely.
