KIng's River

  1. It's lovely. Is it an actual river/stream that's flowing? The water looks quite calm, so I'm guessing you're standing on the bank.

    1. I had to change where I brought Jessy for her walks. This in the Priory fields in Callen, and the building is the Augustinian priory. Still owned by them but no longer used as a religious place. I have access if I need it for a photo studio.
The water is about 7 ft deep below me and a bit shallower up along. But further down it deepens and gets narrow and was used to run maybe about 20 mills.

  2. Very pretty photo! Yes I want to know more about the water AND the building behind it.

    1. RĂ is translated as King and the area was known as Osraige, or Ossory. Kilree with the big round tower is about three miles from the river and downstream about four miles. Kells priory is there on the river too.

  3. Doesn't seem like the type of river a "king" would want to be associated with. Why the name?

    1. It's narrow deep and in winter very very fast. They had to put in flood defences in the town. Last winter it raised 25 foot and flooded huge areas.
