  1. 50 shades and now this? I'm a little bit embarrassed for you! ;)
I liked the book (2 of the 3 parts anyways) better than the movie.

    1. Oh gawd, I don't know which was worse. She was a moany self-involved spoilt little bitch who'd hit a midlife crisis and didn't know that's what it was. I've met the like, they are the type who play on upon the niceness of people to generate a depressive nihilism leaving them wondering what's brought them to the brink of medication. And that think made I think 240m off a $70m investment.

    2. A lot of people felt the same. She was raked over the coals after the book came out, being called selfish. I didn't have so much a problem with her decision to take a year off and find herself. Because seriously, if we had the opportunity or means to do so, many of us would. And if you're not well mentally you're no good to anyone else. But after all was said and done, she married the guy she met in Bali (was it?) and then had an affair on him. That irked me. As it turned out she really was the problem - not her circumstances.

    3. JR did the acting very well then. For I was convinced the character wasn't engaged in any relationship. Now just un-engaged but actively critical in any human relationship as if she was an audience member or even a critic.

  2. I bought the book for my wife and fortunately she was able to watch the movie on an airplane later so I've avoided it altogether. Plan B would be to sit down in the chair at home and try sleeping through it which I've used a time or two on other movies.

    1. If your wife made you watch it you should be allowed to at least not speak to her for a week. It was male abuse plain and simple.

  3. I've not read the book or seen the movie. Maybe that's a good thing?

  4. Empathy is the core of humanity and I can honestly say that I empathized hugely with those whom she came in contact. I didn't know it was largely autobiographical until I read the comments above.

    1. Not that you really care :), but the book does give her backstory much better than the movie does. After reading it, I did see a need for her to go straighten herself out because she seemed a bit destructive. I did have empathy. And so the book documenting her journey to a healthier place in her life was kind of inspiring and interesting. The movie didn't do a good job with that...they usually don't. It was the stuff I read after that turned me sour on the whole story.

    2. Dear GAWD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! actually r-e-a-d her stuff.
Yes, after reading your comment I was curious enough to Wiki her and the book. It seems Oprah gave it one huge shove.
