As you know I convinced myself of the neeeed for a Wacom tablet and pen input set up. And I duly bought the thing.
About a month ago I started to notice that the surface of the tablet. A surface best described as a light sharkskin had become smooth in the middle of the working area. While it was annoying that a 'feature' of the new tablet was vanishing it wasn't until I really thought about it that I decided to ring Wacom and ask them. I was put onto a chap that wasn't that good with English and when I broke into German I was given a huge run around. So I realised I was getting nowhere and blah blahed the rest of the convo. However once I finished the call I contacted Amazon.
Now say what you like about Amazon, when you have a problem so soon after a purchase they are excellent at solving it. The issued a replacement procedure and the new tablet arrived today.
On the new surface, the sharkskin is really tactile. All in all I'm quite glad I was so bolshy and didn't just accept the old one.

I've had really good dealings with Amazon too when I've had to get replacements for broken or incorrect items.
ReplyDeleteI've had issues with them before. But it tends to be product not being up to scratch. A while ago you had something called Internet Quality. Akin to Catalogue Quality of the past when a country person would order off a book and get it posted from Chicago to Nebraska say, and took it because the return shipping was too expensive. So when people got a bit of money they went elsewhere.
DeleteYep, Amazon is pretty good about standing behind your purchases. For me, it's just making myself go to the trouble to contact them. Of course if it's a 'pricier' item, it definitely needs to be done. Glad you did and were pleased with the results.
ReplyDeleteIt was a ware and tear issue that I think should occur 2 maybe 3 years in. After active use. This is the Pro model, so should be able to withstand normal use above that of a weekend user. It certainly shouldn't have rubbed smooth in less than a month.
DeleteOh what a shame on the tablet. That's frustrating when it's not working like it should, especially since it's wasn't an inexpensive purchase. I'm glad they were able to take care of it for you. Do you think the surface was already damaged when you got it or just with your limited use? Do you see a difference in the new one?
ReplyDeleteI've, too, found Amazon quite good with their customer service. On a couple of electronic items I've ordered for school a part of the order hasn't worked correctly and they've sent out replacements within a day or two, and on both occasions didn't make me return what was broken. In one case, it was 2 packages of tiny flashlights - maybe ten in each package. A couple lights in each package didn't work, and they sent me 2 NEW packages without requiring a return. What!?!?!
And I've also had a couple of issues with their shipping carriers. I do have Prime and so get most things in 2 days. My most recent order was supposed to arrive last Thursday and when it hadn't arrived by the evening I checked the tracking and it said the carrier "attempted delivery" but couldn't because they didn't have access to my front door. That was untrue as I have no gate and no access code is needed to leave something on my front porch, so I contacted Amazon and they reshipped the items so I got them on Friday AND AGAIN on Saturday, but only charged once. I've never felt like I'm getting scammed by them (knock on wood) and always come away from problems feeling like they've been solved.
Have you used their "live chat"? That's great too. No actual calling, but it's live right there on the computer. I think all sales-type calls should have live chat. I hate talking on the phone!! :)
What was odd was my mind set. At first I was very meah. It had become such a part of my use of the PC that it seemed 'normal'. But of course it wasn't.
DeleteWhat got me going though was the game played by the Wacom 'help desk'. It's a UK phone number so an international call. Now I'm not that poor, but no one has cash to splash supporting a company too lazy to set up a local contact for EU countries. And then when the fellow pretended to have poor English -on the English language help desk, mind- only to revert to passable once I asked him in academic German. And then to try to flannel me.
You know I was thinking after I bought from Amazon to check the Wacom site. Discovering you can buy from them. They were a little bit less.
Now wasn't I the lucky one. :-)
The thing is these tablets are darn good.
I don't know, clearly Amazon's customer service was much better than your experience with Wacom? Maybe that's not the company "policy" towards customer service, instead a customer service employee who shouldn't be working in customer service.
DeleteMine was the same price on both sites, but I didn't have to pay tax on Amazon, so I went with them.
Paris? Again?
It doesn't seem like they have much information (at least that they are sharing). Other than the rising death toll, what we are hearing here is just restating what we're been hearing 8 hours ago. Just awful.
Most of my dealings with Amazon have been very good, but they are so big (and that's scary).
ReplyDeleteYes, big, but until the local shops and the back logistics find a way to better the offering I don't see it changing anytime soon.
DeleteWhat I've not heard about Amazon, like I have with almost all other retailers, is gouging suppliers. Coming back to re-do contracts a month or two after it was formed. But, of course, that may well be that it's yet to come out. :-)
Horrible. Did you see what that fuckwit Trump tweeted. And then the answer he got from the French ambassador. Trump picked up on the french gun laws, and the ambassador called himna vulture.
ReplyDeleteI saw it on my twitter feed almost as soon as it occurred, from Woody Allen's ex missus of all people. Mia Farrow has some really great connections. And spot on too.
I'm very worried that the backlash against the north African inside France could happen. But then, I also think that the very best of the French will come to the fore. It isn't in them to pogrom.
I just read a couple of hours ago that the tweet was his response after the January attacks at Charlie Hebdo, and it resurfaced today. He was a vulture then and is so even now, even though he had a change of tone today. What a horrifying man, regardless. I don't twitter, but tweets are covered by the media about as much as other news. Ugh!
DeleteI'm sure there will be a backlash, if not from France then from US. It's already being used as a talking point for more "boots on the ground".
This is nearer to what occurred in Madrid. The thinking on the TV is Syria, due to France being involved with air strikes on ISIS.
DeleteNope, didn't learn a lesson...
