Hodge-podge

I've been trying to reduce weight and have gone to a smoked salmon supper. Who'd a believed my little dog has a taste for it.

I got a strip of 300 LEDs. I'm not sure what I'll do with them. At the moment I have them strung over my bedroom and using them instead of the main lights. Oddly they seem better. Certainly more daylight balanced and ergo better for SAD. Aiding Vit D usage/uptake.

It's warmer here than it was in June.

But it really hasn't stopped heavily raining for three weeks. Mind you we were really lucky for the months before that.

Got a flu jab today for the first time.

Got my first antihistamine in years, Zirtek. Oh, you can buy Claritin here, over the counter. But I think the good stuff is removed.

Had a very bad trawl through the 2nd and shops today.

Bought an external harddrive 'cheaper' than I could on Amazon. Now that's a first. Seems Amazon is on the turn.

I'm working up an idea for the spring show at the royal Hibernian academy.

  1. I've been contemplated putting up lights like that in the bedroom for quite sometime. They're very pretty, but I thought they would be too hard to put up. When I did it that past weekend, it's actually really easy. It's gives the room a soft look, which is nice especially in winter.
Yah the regular Claritin is over the counter here too, it's the D that is behind. Is there something in bloom with your warmer weather that is causing you allergies? The last two weeks it's been quite cool here and the mornings have been at freezing this week. In fact, on my walk early this morning some dingaling had left their sprinklers set for overnight (which we do in the hottest summer) and their entire front sidewalk was covered in ice. Of course I didn't notice it because it was dark out. Now I've got a skinned up and bruised knee to prove it. New York is having the warmest fall in years and we are having a fall colder than our winter has been in the last two years. Strange!!
Had a look at the RHA website. Wow! That looks like a pretty big deal! Would it be in Dublin or are there satellite-like galleries in other locations?
A bad time in the 2nd hand shops because you found a lot of good stuff and spent too much money :) or because you found nothing?
Is salmon native to you all in Ireland? I'm remembering in my time there that salmon was served a lot. The reason I remember that is because I can't eat fish, but saw it everywhere. I believe those who had it were quite pleased with it, so I assumedit's something local and fresh. Are you at least changing up the way you prepare it so it doesn't become too boring over time?

    1. There's such a variety of the LEDs and uses too. Mine are white. I suppose since you are so bright anyway you don't want of need to have in inside. We are different, it's bloody dark here. Usually we get the 10 days either side of the cardinal days bright and sunny.
I got a test and it seems my histamine load is 150 over the acceptible range.

Yeah, (chuckle) the RHA is a big deal right enough.

I found nothing in the 2nd hand shops. They weren't empty, just filled with shite.

The North Atlantic salmon is a native. It was very plentiful once but now is very iffy. They've stopped fishing it and they were taking huge amounts out each year. An excellent example of No shit Sherlock. The stupid idiots in the Dublin and EU administrations were blaming estuary and rod fishermen, not 300ft factory ships scooping up the schools by the new time. This stuff is farmed. So that why it went almost sickeningly availible.

  2. So much of what is listed on Amazon is through 3rd party sellers these days and I'm guessing, there isn't many deals among them. At least unlike the stuff that Amazon buys in bulk and stocks in their warehouses.

I love smoked salmon and we usually pick up some (unsmoked) salmon if we are in the grocery store on Wednesday because they are stocked on Tuesday evening. However by the end of the week, the look pretty unappetizing so we steer clear from them then. Most of our salmon is farm raised but occasionally they have wild Alaska caught salmon when it is in season. I can't discern a taste difference but I'm guessing the wild ones have less antibiotics and such in them.

  3. While it was definitely hotter here in June than it is now, we've still had an awful lot of warm weather and it looks like it might be a "t-shirt" Christmas. Even though I don't like really cold weather, we need at least three or four days of below freezing temps to get a handle on the fleas, ticks, and other bugs.

In recent years, I've tried to make a point of getting a flu shot - I got mine at the end of October.

What thoughts are you having for a show? Maybe an entire series featuring Jess? You'd certainly draw the dog-lovers and she's always a good subject. :)
