Oh, the stories (on this site and from other sources) just break my heart, but also frustrate me so. It's such a deeply rooted conflict that I don't completely understand how it continues and continues after all this time. It reminds me of a antagonistic married couple - one that just can't help picking and poking at each other, it's just what they do, what they know. The "regular" people, on both sides, are so inspirational but like anywhere else until the powers that be decide to change, it's the regular people who are suffering and dying.
ReplyDeleteWe get such truly bad and conflicting data, plus we've a natural racist sympathy to one side and that filter needs to be removed. But there's very little by way of getting honest broker info, until this.
DeleteI know I phrased it badly, but I intended one reads it in small chunks. It's gets overwhelming very rapidly.
Oh, I have a little girl that's no respecter of idiotic winter time hour shifts who wanted out at her usual time. Who got me up to open the door and is right now back in my bed while I, who needs sleep is wide awake. :-D
DeleteThe tendency to one side is because of that conflicting data. Our politicians, from either party, wouldn't dare show support for anything remotely siding with Palestine out of fear of losing backers.
DeleteDid you "fall back" then? We don't until this next weekend, and it's so dark outside in the morning while I'm getting ready which makes it hard to motivate. Mine always jumps out of bed like a morning person while I grumble and groan, but by the time I'm out of the shower she's back in bed sound asleep which makes me jealous. :). I hope she gets her schedule turned around for you right quick! :)
There are so many conflicts in the world that we (and "we" can cover a variety of groups) really have no understanding of ... never had and never will... whether it's tribal, cultural, religious, or whatever. Sometimes I wonder what gives "us" the right to go into a region and impose our beliefs (social, moral, economic, "Western", etc.) on others.
ReplyDeleteThen again, from a humanitarian viewpoint... how can we not feel the need to try?
It's a real conundrum and one for which I certainly have no answers.
Where I see the issue in this context is we aren't getting good information and that we are getting to biased to such an extent that it allows a persistent and ongoing abuse. We have been trained to expect certain things, it's the narrative. And that story is spun as the plucky little nation up against forces vastly greater than herself, and that's bullshit. This is simply one powerful state bullying a few tiny clans and making life so un-livable that they move.

ReplyDeleteOnce I'd have supported Israel come what may, but they used drones to guide salvo's of HE ordinance at a troop of Filipino peacekeepers in the Lebanon in the mid 90s. Ever since I took careful note of their reports and halved them to get near the truth. Now it seems even that was very generous.
